Sunburn Skincare
I got my first sunburn of the season… on one side of my face. Well, it was a little more than just half, but it was definitely not an even burn. I forgot to put any sunscreen on because it was the first time being out in the sun for an extended period of time of the year, and it was cool enough I was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. So I thought I would share with you what I do for a sunburn.
1. Apply after-sun lotion all over the burn. I like the Banana Boat Moisturizing After Sun Lotion with aloe and vitamin E, and Hawaiian Tropic’s Lime Coolada After Sun moisturizer with aloe vera, cocoa, and shea butter, specifically for the face. I like to put it on a freshly washed face in place of my regular moisturizer, so I typically use it twice a day until the burn isn’t as severe. It feels and smells so nice! (I also like the gel too for the rest of the body.)
2. Use lip balm. If your face got burnt, your lips probably didn’t escape the sun either. Plus, using lip balm is always a good idea. (-; I have ChapStick‘s Limeade right now which goes well with the after-sun lotion and summer vibe (even though, yes; I know, it’s only spring).
3. Drink water. Extra water, I mean. I know this is beginning to sound like previous posts, but this post is aimed toward taking care of sunburnt skin. So drink more water. Feel free to squeeze some lemon juice in for flavor -and to go with the summer theme! I’ve been drinking a lot of lemon water lately, and I really like it!
4. Use sunscreen from now on. Do NOT get a burn on top of your burn! (Cringe!) Please be sure to apply sunscreen periodically throughout the entire time you’re outside next, even if it’s cloudy. This is very important. There is also lip balm with SPF in it, so you might want to check that out too!
5. Don’t peel your flaking skin off. Let it come off on its own as you wash and sleep and such, at least until it’s really dry and there’s no danger of peeling fresh skin off.
I think that’s all my advice for dealing with a sunburn! I know sunburns aren’t pleasant, but they will take time to heal. Hopefully it will be worth it and it will turn into a tan for you! Follow these steps until your skin is back to normal! (-:
