Fall Bucket List

I suppose it’s that time of year where I have to let summer go and embrace my favorite things about fall. I know that no matter how much I want it to stay summer, I can’t change the inevitable. And there are things I like about fall. So, since I made a summer bucket list, and since it seemed to be well-received, I thought I’d make a fall bucket list too. Enjoy!

Number One: Pick a pumpkin. Go to a pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin to paint, carve, or simply set out! There are so many creative things to do with a pumpkin, so pick your favorite, or try something new! I think plain, natural-looking pumpkins are pretty as a front porch decoration, but I have fun childhood memories of painting them and digging the gunk out of them too!

Number Two: Visit a corn maze. Take along your friends and navigate a maze of corn together! Don’t worry about getting lost- it has to lead somewhere! (And even if you do, at least you’ll be with your friends. (-;)

Number Three: Go to a football game. You don’t have to go to an NFL or college game to see a live football game. High school games are a popular event for the community that can be entertaining and fun, and very inexpensive! An alternative for this one is having a football watch party at your house, inviting friends over to watch your favorite team on TV and eating lots of great snacks!

Number Four: Host a bonfire. I know I mentioned this one in my summer post, but I think a fire is even more of a fall thing, because the flames keep you warm from the autumn night air. Load up on hot dogs and s’mores and wear your favorite flannel!

Number Five: Make a list of what you’re grateful for. With Thanksgiving approaching, it’s a good time to count our blessings. You could do it in a journal, or make a fun craft of it, or even write a poem or song! Be creative with this one and don’t forget to give God the glory!

Number Six: Attend a fall festival. One of my favorite fall memories growing up is going to a local fall festival and walking around with my family, browsing the vendors, eating chili and apple dumplings, riding in a horse-drawn wagon, etc. This is a good way to support local businesses and get in all the fall feels with your family!

Number Seven: Go on a hay ride. I haven’t been on a hay ride for years, but it’s such a fall thing to do! Make it a girls’ night, a date night, or a family night, wear a cozy sweater, and make a fond autumn memory. Don’t forget to bring blankets and maybe a cup of apple cider, and enjoy gazing at the stars!

Number Eight: Bake (or at least eat!) a pie. Pumpkin or apple seem to be the most common in the fall, but there are others that would still give you a fall vibe, I think. If you’ve never baked a pie, find a recipe, gather the ingredients, and have fun trying something new! If you are a pro at baking pies, consider making a few and sharing them with neighbors or church family. And even if you don’t make a pie yourself this year, at least eat a PIEce when you get the chance! Don’t forget the vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

Number Nine: Rake leaves. To some, this might be a routine chore, but to others it’s such a fun fall thing to do! And at the end, once the leaves are all piled up, you have a fluffy pile to jump into! I haven’t done that for a while either, but perhaps I’ll take my own advice this year. (-; Even if you don’t have many leaves in your own yard, there’s a chance you know someone who wishes someone would rake their yard. Maybe you have a grandparent who is unable to rake their own lawn, or know a single mother who could use the help. (Just a heads up, this one might make you sore afterwards!)

Number Ten: Host a game night. Nights in with friends and family is a good way to have fun and be social from the comfort of your own home in the cool autumn weather! If you have a game room or basement with a pool table, air hockey, or ping-pong, that would be a fun idea to do with friends, or you could have all your guests bring their favorite board or card game! Be sure to have snacks on hand, and maybe create a fall playlist for background music beforehand! I know this idea may be a bit repetitive on my blog, but this game night is fall-themed! (-; A few card games I like are Dutch Blitz, Spoons, and Old Maid. (Yes, I said Old Maid. LOL.) Let’s keep going!

Number Eleven: Watch cheesy fall romance movies. I know these get to be old kind of fast, but the fall vibes are definitely there, and usually these types of movies are appropriate for general audiences (although they’re geared towards the female population (-;). So bring your besties home after walking around a fall fest or doing a corn maze, put on your cozy clothes, and cuddle up on the couch with a cute little movie full of all things fall and romance!

Number Twelve: Read. Imagine this: You just got all clean and fresh from a shower or bath after a long, productive day and you’ve put on your favorite, coziest pajamas on a chilly autumn night. All you want to do now is cozy up on the couch with a blanket and get lost in the pages of a book (or your favorite blog -hint hint (-;). So you do! There are countless books out there, for anyone anywhere! I definitely recommend reading real, tangible books, but books on your phone or other electronic device work alright too. (-; I like to browse books on Kindle sometimes, where I can find just about anything! Even if I don’t read the book on there, I can save them so I’ll remember to get them out of the library sometime. Anyway, read books, read blogs, read the Bible. The cold months are an especially good time to get some good books checked off your reading list. You might even decide to read a whole series during this season! If you want a suggestion, I’d say the Anne of Green Gables series off the top of my head. One of my very favorites! <3 Ok, I’ll stop talking about reading now.

Number Thirteen: Take a nature hike. Find a friend, find a park, and get out on a trail! The leaves are so pretty this time of year- one of the most fall-ish things about fall! It’s also a decent time of year for walks; you won’t feel like you’re dying of heat (depending on where you live, of course), but you (hopefully) won’t freeze, either! And walking is such good exercise! Get that blood flowing!

Number Fourteen: Create a fall craft. Pick some freshly-fallen leaves from the yard and do a coloring activity with them, paint a pumpkin, make a handprint turkey, make a fall-themed wreath… The possibilities are endless! You were made to be creative and resourceful and can even make up a project yourself! And, of course, there’s Pinterest too…

Number Fifteen: Take a scenic drive. I love riding in the car and watching the scenery go by, but the experience is elevated when the trees have turned color and are full of beautiful, vibrant fall colors!

Ok, fall is a beautiful, fun, cozy season, and I hope we can all make the most of it this year, whether it’s our favorite season or not. Save this post to your device if you want to come back to it throughout the upcoming weeks to “check off” what you’ve done and remember what you still have to do! Remember, there is lots to be thankful for! Happy fall!

As much as I love Summer and hate to see it leave every year, I actually do enjoy Fall. The cooler, sometimes chilly weather is nice. I enjoy wearing hoodies and doing many of the things you listed. It seems there is one peak week that the leaves are at the most colorful and I always want to drive somewhere I can see the most trees, but it never seems to happen.
Your list brought back some fun memories for me, like raking and jumping in leaves. Though that was limited as my allergies and asthma were so bad that I would be totally miserable afterwards! I enjoy the festivals, hay rides, camp fires, hiking, and have good memories of each. Although, unfortunately, my allergies seem to be associated with all of them! lol

Maybe this will be the year you will take a drive when the leaves are at their most colorful! And allergies are so annoying! 🙁
