Mini Makeover

Don’t you just love those shower days where you include everything in the routine? I only do them about once a week, if that, because they take time and energy and I don’t usually need them much more often than that. I love the transformation though, especially when I include everything! I feel so much better afterwards! Let’s take a look at what I may include in these mini makeovers!

Before Shower

I start out by brushing my hair so that it will be easier to condition and comb through after my shower, and so there won’t be as much hair shedding in the shower.

Next I take chipping nail polish off. I think nails look better without polish than with chipped polish, and they feel better that way too- smooth and natural!

Then I brush and floss my teeth thoroughly and swish with mouthwash. I sometimes brush my lips with my toothbrush after that to exfoliate them. I recently started using an exfoliating facial brush as well before I begin my shower, which I’ve noticed does make a difference in the feel of my face! So soft and smooth!

During Shower

In the shower, I shampoo my hair -focusing on my scalp- then rinse it out with cool water. Next I coat my hair with conditioner, focusing more on the mane than the scalp. Then I wash my face with facial wash and rinse it off. Next, I wash my body with body wash using a loofah. A washcloth feels nice too, but I think loofahs scrub better and get dead skin off easier. After that, I rinse out my conditioner, sometimes gently combing through my hair with my fingers. Lastly, I shave my underarms and legs with shaving cream, and then take one final rinse, including my hair.

After Shower

After the shower, two of the most important things I do is put on cute, clean, comfortable clothes and deodorant. Even if I’m planning to use lotion or perfume, I make sure to swipe my underarms with an aluminum-free deodorant for the day (or night).

The next still-important things I do is use my oil-free eye makeup remover if there’s still leftover makeup around my eyes, then moisturize my face with oil-free facial moisturizer. I don’t need a lot of either thing- a tiny bit of makeup remover on a cotton swab will do the trick if there are traces of black around my eyes, and a thin layer of moisturizer will work just how it’s meant to- if not better- than a thick layer would. I also might use lotion on my arms and legs if the skin on them is dry, which helps add softness and shine, not to mention a sweet scent! I also put on lip balm or oil, whether I’m going to do my makeup or not.

I usually let my hair air dry, but if I am going to blow dry it I spray it with heat protectant first, which I use before styling my hair with any type of hot iron as well. I might braid it otherwise so that it will be wavy when I take it out a day or two later, which is such an easy and efficient way of styling it! When I take this route, I typically do two French braids, specifically because they dry faster and I think they look cuter on me than just one. However, if I want to go for bigger, looser waves I will opt for a simple French braid down my back. I stay away from rubber bands when braiding so that they don’t damage the ends of my hair, so use cloth hair ties without a metal clasp instead.

Well, this completes my little weekly (or so) makeover! I hope you can find some little tips and ideas in this post to add to your own routine! If you have any additional habits included in your shower time routine you’d like to share, feel free to leave a comment! I love hearing from my readers! Have a lovely day!
