Fun Night-In Ideas to do with Friends

Are your weekends feeling dull and boring? Do you have a harder time in fall and winter getting together with friends because you don’t go outside when it’s cold? Do you want some ideas of fun things to do to at home with your besties? If you answered yes to any of these questions, read on! (And if you answered no, read on!)

Do you like to sing and laugh and goof around with your friends? How about having a karaoke night at your house next weekend? Invite some friends over for a night of singing your hearts out to fun and nostalgic songs together! My friends and I use YouTube for the music and lyrics, and a karaoke machine for the microphone, but you can use whatever works best for you! To be prepared, make a playlist of songs beforehand so you won’t run out of song ideas. (We sing a lot of Disney when we karaoke together at sleepovers and such. (-; )

Maybe singing isn’t your thing, but you love to dance! Something that I think is really fun and have good memories of is line dancing! Gather friends, siblings, and/or cousins in your living room, turn on a line dancing playlist, and have so much fun! You could even learn new ones together! There are lots of tutorials online, so if you don’t know how to line dance, you can start there! Here is a list of songs for you to start with: “Cha Cha Slide,” “Church Clap,” “Electric Slide,” “Chicken Dance,” “YMCA,” “Macarena,” “Hokey Pokey,” “Cupid Shuffle,” and “Cotton Eye Joe.” (This is also a great way to exercise!)

I know I’ve talked about game nights on my blog before, but I’m going to mention it again here since you may have missed my other posts about it and it’s such a good one for this post. Game nights tend to have lots of laughter and quality chatting time involved, along with competing and maybe even learning! If you like trivia games and Disney, you should check out the Disney Pictopia board game. If you like Apples to Apples, try out What Do You Meme? and New Phone, Who Dis? (both family editions). These are a few popular ones among some of my friends and myself. (I included the Amazon links to each of these games with their titles so you can go check them out!)

I know I already mentioned line dancing, but I’m going to also mention a dance party. You can include line dancing, but you also can just dance freestyle and to other, non-line dance songs. You could do this at a sleepover with your besties in your room, or invite a larger group over and fill your basement or living room! Turn the music up and dance your heart out! Here are some songs on the wholesome side from an old playlist of mine from when I was a teenager that’s kind of embarrassing to share but I want to share anyway (haha) : “Get this Party Started” by TobyMac, “Welcome to the Show” by Britt Nicole, “Tweezy Dance” by KJ-52, “Dance On,” by Jamie Grace, “Happy Dance” by MercyMe, “The B-O-Y-Z Dance” by VeggieTales (LOL), “How We Roll” by Britt Nicole, “Do the Mermaid” from “Barbie in a Mermaid Tale 2 (LOL), “Footloose” from the VeggieTales ’80s album, “Girl Named Tennessee” by Needtobreathe, and “Party Like a Princess” by Jamie Grace. I also would recommend looking into KB and Capital Kings for upbeat songs to dance to. There are more songs I could recommend for a clean, family-oriented dance party, but I’ll leave it at that for now. (-; (Let me know in a comment if you’d like more song and artist ideas for a family/faith-based dance party!)

Something so fun and nostalgic is watching movies and shows from your childhood! I still love a good Barbie movie or VeggieTales episode, and am hoping to binge watch some other old favorites soon! My top recommendations for Barbie movies are “Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper,” “Barbie as the Island Princess,” “Barbie in the Twelve Dancing Princesses,” “Barbie and the Three Musketeers,” “Barbie: Princess Charm School,” and “Barbie in a Christmas Carol.” Such classics! <3 <3 <3 They’re such pretty, girly films, with dreamy dresses, good story plots, and chivalrous, handsome princes! Great options for a good throwback if you’re a 2000s girlie!

This one is one I haven’t done in quite a while; probably something I did at sleepovers when I was a lot younger. But I want to include it because I would totally do it now too! Makeover night with the girls! Trying a new hairstyle on each other, doing each other’s makeup, and painting nails together is so much fun, especially at slumber parties. Have your friends bring their makeup or hair tools, use hair or makeup tutorial videos or books, and be sure to take fun pictures!

One more idea, one that I have only accomplished once in my lifetime -at least on purpose- is pulling an all-nighter. Like, staying up all night just for fun and to say that you did it. When I did it, we played games and watched movies and ate snacks, which was fun, but I did have a hard time staying awake part of the time! Of course, I probably didn’t even drink anything with caffeine because I don’t like most pop. I believe it was over Christmas break one year… It was fun. Though I ended up falling asleep on a movie at like 6:00 a.m. or something, LOL! So I didn’t have a 24-hour all-nighter… just an all-nighter. (-;

Well, these are some of my ideas that I’ve done so many times with my friends (and hope to continue to do in the near future!) to help get you through the cold months! A couple good ideas are to be sure to provide snacks when hosting, like chips, popcorn, little individually-wrapped sweets, and water, and clean your house before you get company! Maybe you can even have a rotation among a few friends for having each other over each Friday or Saturday night if you want to get together regularly. Also, something that has been a highlight of those fun nights with my friends is fun lights! I have a little disco ball with lights and a remote that I’ve taken over to a friend’s house, but there are so many other kinds and options! There are light bulbs that you simply put in a regular lamp and they spin, LED strips with multiple modes, or fairy lights you can string up! Colorful, dancing lights are so much fun and really add to a party!

Writing this post brought back so many fun memories, and I hope it will help you make your own. I honestly haven’t done some of these since I was in high school, but I think I’m going to try to make some of them happen very soon! Feel free to check out all the links to Amazon and read my post “How to Host a Game Night” before you go. Have fuunnn!! <3 (-;
