The World’s Messages are Opposite of the Truth
You know those popular beliefs or trending topics that you hear or see everywhere? They may sound good, and maybe even biblical, but if you think more about their meanings, you realize that they’re actually contradicting the Word of God. They are lies of the enemy.
One example of these deceptive messages that I see all the time is the importance of self-love. Did you know that in the Bible, there is a verse that tells us that in the end times, men will be lovers of self, among other things (2 Timothy 3:1-5)? The world’s views of self-love are all about putting yourself first, making your life all about you and how you feel and what you want. Does this sound like what Jesus taught? No, it doesn’t! He told us to put others first, to treat others the way we want to be treated, to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to deny ourselves.
I do believe that we should take care of ourselves, make smart choices, accept the way God made us, and have a fair amount of self-esteem. I’m not of the opinion that we’re supposed to live our lives despising ourselves. I know that with the way the world is now, with so much abuse, trauma, mental health issues and more, it can be hard for those who deal with any of that to have self-esteem and a healthy view of themselves. However, the messages the world offers still don’t line up with the truth of God’s Word. We’re called to humble ourselves, to be servants of the Lord, and to present our bodies a living and holy sacrifice. (Romans 12:1)
Self-love is only one of the world’s messages that I see trending all over the place. I believe just about any message you see everywhere has a deceiving, worldly meaning. When you notice that you’re hearing the same thing all the time from the sources of the world, I urge you to compare them with what God says in the Bible.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:10-12
