My “Everyday Makeup” Routine
Happy Thursday!! So glad you’re here. I think it’s about time I shared some of my makeup tips with you! Let’s dive right in!
When I do my makeup, I like to start with a clean face with a thin layer of moisturizer on, preferably having let the moisturizer sit and soak into my skin for a little while. I think the makeup goes on a bit better if the moisturizer isn’t so fresh and damp, and I also think the moisturizer can serve as somewhat of a primer, helping the makeup to stick.
The first makeup product I typically use is concealer, but in some cases I do use foundation. I usually like the look and feel of my skin the way it is rather than it being covered in foundation, plus there’s less chance of my pores being clogged if I just skip that part. However, there are spots I like to cover up and help match the rest of my skin tone, so I use concealer on those reddish areas. I quickly learned that I don’t need much to cover one small spot! I take the concealer applicator, poke a tiny dot onto the desired area, then pat with my finger or use a small makeup brush to gently rub it in. Voila! Step one complete!
Next I use blush. There’s a certain, almost brown-ish color that I start with, using it as somewhat of a contour on my cheeks and forehead. It’s not dark enough to make my face look a completely different color from the rest of my body; it just serves to give my face some color. I still use pink blush on my cheeks next.
Eyeshadow is one of the most fun parts of makeup, I think. There are so many ways you can do it! Often, I use about three colors. I typically use skin-tone colors as the base to cover any veins and such, and then add whatever colors I want after that. Sometimes I just go with a light shimmer over my whole eyelid up to and sometimes just above my eyebrow, or I might take a skinny brush and use black or purple around my lash lines to make my eyes pop out. I do my eyeshadow differently each day, so this isn’t strictly what I always do. These are just a couple ways I’ve been doing it lately. I always apply darker colors toward the bottom and lighter colors as I go up toward the eyebrow. My personal favorite eyeshadow colors on me are browns and purples.
Eyeliner!!! I use eyeliner as close to my bottom lash line as possible, or, really, along it. I take it all the way to the corners of my eye and then up into the inner top lid to where my eyelashes start to be visible. I don’t draw a thick line; I try to make it as thin as I can so it doesn’t look very unnatural. And although I’m not a fan of winged liner looks because I think it looks especially unnatural, I occasionally take the line outwards just a smidge.
After the eyeliner, I comb out my lashes and then curl them. I take the curler and squeeze it onto my top lashes for 5-10 seconds and then move it up a bit and do it again. I might comb them out once more if it looks like they could use it again. Be careful not to pinch yourself!
MASCARA. Probably my favorite part. No falsies for me! I think applying mascara is fun. I usually use the blackest mascara I can, or if I’m wearing something that I think brown would look better with I use brown, although I don’t feel like there’s a huge, noticeable difference between the two once it’s actually on. I try to coat each eyelash from base to tip, and not to get too much on to where they start sticking together. If that happens, I use my fingernails to try and separate them, or an eyelash comb. Also, if I get mascara on my skin, I take a plain, dry cotton swab and wipe it away. If I need to add a tiny bit of makeup remover, I will, but usually a dry cotton swab will work just fine. Then I might just try to touch up my eyeshadow if I feel it doesn’t look even anymore.
I used to end there, but… I have fallen in “really like” with lip gloss!! It adds so much to the look when my lips are glossed up with clear or light pink gloss or lip oil. I don’t feel like my lips are my best feature, and I don’t think they look great with dark lipstick, but I like having some shine or shimmer on to complete the look.
Well, this is my regular makeup routine! I like to take my time with it and enjoy it, and I often listen to music while I do it. I don’t always get to spend as much time on it as I’d like, though, and I often feel rushed with my routine and find myself trying to finish up my mascara minutes before rushing out the door. (I think that’s practically inevitable…) I hope there were some helpful ideas in here for you! Doing makeup and figuring out what looks best on you takes time and trial and error. My routine changes overtime, and for the better. Looking back at old photos proves it!
Ladies, before you go, I want to encourage you to remember that God created your body the way He wanted it, and that you’re a masterpiece. You don’t have to have a face full of makeup before leaving the house. It’s important to remember that true beauty is on the inside, and that’s the beauty that counts. Prioritizing makeup over other, more important things in life doesn’t add to your inner beauty; it takes away from it. So be sure to try and focus on what truly matters and work on becoming more beautiful on the inside! <3 Thanks for stopping by!
