At-Home Pedicures
Hello lovelies! Let’s go grab a cookie and come back to this…
First of all, I would suggest making sure you have plenty of time for this activity and you don’t feel rushed to do it. I typically do my nails in the evening, on a night I don’t feel rushed to get to bed. I will make a list of what you’ll need before we begin. You can purchase all of these items at your local superstore. There are also pedicure sets you can purchase, like this one on Amazon that I use!
- Towels/paper towels.
- Nail polish; clear and of your choice
- Nail polish remover
- Cotton balls & cotton swabs
- Nail file
- Nail clippers
- Loofah
- Soap & water
- Foot file
- Lotion
- Entertainment (optional)
1. Remove any nail polish you already have on. Grab some cotton balls and the nail polish remover and scrub off remaining polish from your last pedicure.
2. Remove excess skin and nail. When you want to create a fresh look for your feet, I suggest starting by clipping your toenails, filing/shaping them, and scraping any dead skin away from your heels and other calloused parts of your feet. It’s ok if you wait on this step until after washing your feet, but I like to start with this so that any dirt stuck under the toenails and the flakes of dead skin will be washed away. Also, if you want to take it a step further, use a cuticle pusher and push the cuticles down and then clip them off. This gives a neater appearance, but isn’t as necessary of a step.
3. Give yourself a foot bath. After you’ve achieved overall softness and smoothness for your feet, go wash them. Scrub them with soap or body scrub on a loofah, sponge, wash cloth, etc. and use a nail brush on your toenails. Feel free to soak your feet for as long as you’d like to! Rinse and dry. Repeat step one if desired.
4. Lotion your feet. Avoid your toes, though. You can set out a towel and place your feet on it for the next step so dust and dirt don’t stick to them.
5. Paint your nails. You can start with a clear base, or you can use a color first. I think the fewer layers the better when using nail polish. After your colored polish, you can use clear as a topper to add shine whether you used it as a base or not. Don’t get too much polish on your brush though; if you don’t have enough the first time, it’s ok- there’s still more in the bottle! Getting too much on the nail bed makes it thick and takes longer to dry. Don’t worry if you get it on your skin! We’ll worry about that in a bit.
6. Let the nails dry. Watch a movie or something. LET THEM DRY completely before walking, touching them, or putting socks on!! Blow on them, use a handheld fan, or just sit and wait. Patience, dears! I know it’s hard, but it’s worth it if you want flawless nails. Read a book (or a blog post (-;), talk to a friend on the phone, or listen to some jams. If you can sit still long enough for one of those things, you can do it with wet nails.
7. Clean up. If you got polish on the skin around your nails, grab a cotton swab or two and the nail polish remover, put just a little bit of remover on the cotton, and carefully rub the excess paint off. Then, if you’re sure your nails are dry, you can wash your toes again if you wish, and then add some lotion to them and put on some fuzzy socks.
Enjoy those pretty little piggies this summer!
